These Terms of Service govern your use of the Localz platform, operated by Bupbokmuk Lab Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17292473. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Localz, except in Australia, where the minimum age is 16. If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian must have reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. If you are below the minimum age for your country, do not create an account — we will delete accounts found to belong to users below it.
Localz currently operates in the United Kingdom. We have not launched anywhere else. You may create an account and register interest in a community in another country, but no community will open there until we launch in that country, and we cannot say when or whether that will happen.
You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account. You may not share, transfer, or create multiple accounts to circumvent moderation.
Localz is built around Hubs — running conversations belonging either to a place or to a group of people. Section 7 sets out the three kinds, and how a Hub is created, owned and closed.
You agree not to use the Service to:
Our full Community Guidelines explain these rules in plain language with examples.
You own what you post, and you are solely responsible for it. We may remove content that violates these Terms.
What you promise us. By posting, you confirm that the content is yours to post — that you created it, or otherwise have every right needed to share it here and to grant us the licence below. Do not post things belonging to other people, such as photographs you did not take, without their permission.
The licence you give us. By posting content to the Service, you grant Bupbokmuk Lab Ltd a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence to host, store, use, copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, summarise, publish, display, perform, distribute and otherwise make available that content, and to create derived works from it — including topic groupings, running summaries, and aggregated or anonymised insights about a place or a community — in any media and through any channel, for the purposes of operating, improving, promoting and funding the Service.
This includes showing content you post in a public Hub outside the app — for example on a public page about an area that anyone can read, with your username attached as it appears in the Hub. It does not include your direct messages, or Hubs whose access rules restrict who can see them; those stay where you put them.
You keep ownership throughout, and the licence is not perpetual: delete a piece of content and the licence over it ends, save for aggregated or anonymised material already derived from it, which cannot be unpicked from the whole and does not identify you. For content you choose to leave in a Hub, the licence survives the closing of your account.
Moral rights. To the extent permitted by law, you waive any moral rights you have in content you post — including the right to be identified as its author and the right to object to it being edited or adapted — so that we can summarise, group and reformat conversations without having to credit each message individually. This does not affect your ownership of the content.
What deleting does. You can delete any message you posted, at any time, and it is removed. Deleting your accountworks differently: your account and personal data are erased, and messages you left in a Hub stay in the conversation permanently detached from you, shown as “Deleted User”. We keep them because a thread with its messages cut out leaves replies answering nothing. If you want what you wrote removed as well, delete it before you delete your account. Direct messages are always deleted with your account.
We host what members post, we do not publish it. Localz does not write, commission, select, or review member posts before they appear. Automated systems may sort a message onto a Deals or News board, or group it into a subroom — that is automated organisation of content you chose to post, applied the same way to everyone, and it does not make the content ours or mean we have approved it. In relation to content posted by members, we are a hosting provider for the purposes of the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 and an operator of a website for the purposes of section 5 of the Defamation Act 2013. Promoted content is not member content and is dealt with separately in section 9.
Reviews and opinions.Localz is a place to say what you actually thought about a place, an event, or a business, and we will not remove a post simply for being negative. You are responsible for the difference between an opinion (“I thought it was badly run”) and an allegation of fact (“they took the money and cancelled”). If you state something as fact, be able to stand behind it.
AI processing is performed with user identifiers anonymised. Hub owners can disable AI organisation for their Hub at any time from Hub Settings, and we honour that setting. Individual users may object to AI processing of their messages by contacting us — see our Privacy Policy for details.
If you believe something posted on Localz is unlawful — defamatory, infringing your copyright or trade mark, disclosing your private information, or in breach of a court order — tell us and we will deal with it. The process, what a complaint needs to contain, and the timescales we work to are set out on our Content Complaints page.
Where we receive a valid notice of complaint under section 5 of the Defamation Act 2013, we follow the procedure in the Defamation (Operators of Websites) Regulations 2013. That may mean we pass the complaint to you as the person who posted the content, and that if you do not respond to us within the period those Regulations allow, we must remove the post. You agree that we may contact you at your registered email address for this purpose.
We may remove content, suspend a Hub, or suspend an account while a complaint is being looked into. A Hub that is suspended is hidden from everyone, including its own members, but its content is retained so that it can be reviewed.
There are three kinds of Hub, and they work differently.
Area Hubs are the map: a country, a city, a borough. There is one per place, we create and maintain them, and they do not close. You cannot create an Area Hub yourself — pledging is how you tell us where to open the next one.
Community Hubsare yours, and they cover two things. One is a place smaller than an Area Hub — your neighbourhood, your estate, your street. The other is a group of people rather than a place — a running club, a residents’ association, a hobby, a café’s regulars, a business you run. Anyone can start either, the member who creates one owns it, and it sits alongside the Area Hubs rather than inside them.
Event Hubs are tied to a place and a time — a gig, a market, a meet-up. They are live while the event is on and wind down once it has been and gone, though one can graduate into a Community Hub if the people in it want to carry on.
Creating one. Creating a Community or Event Hub is free. We do apply limits to keep the map usable — how many you can create in a given period, how many you can run at once, and in some cases whether you are actually in the area you are creating for.
Community and Event Hubs are not permanent. A Community Hub that goes quiet is warned and then closed if nothing happens — a room nobody is talking in is worse than no room at all, and leaving dead ones on the map makes the live ones harder to find. Event Hubs wind down after their event. Area Hubs are infrastructure and stay either way.
Hub owners are responsible for their Hub and their members’ conduct. We may archive or remove Hubs that violate these Terms. Where the owner of a Community Hub leaves Localz, we may take the Hub over rather than close it, so that its members keep the conversation.
Pledges. Where no Area Hub exists for a place yet, you can pledge for one. A pledge is free and is not a payment, a contract, or a promise from us — it records that you would join if the Hub opened, and it helps us decide where to open next. We cannot guarantee that any area reaches its threshold or that a pledged Hub ever opens, and we may change or withdraw the threshold for an area.
Events are not ours. Hosting an Event Hub does not make us the organiser of the event itself, and some events on Localz are listed using information from third parties. We do not guarantee that an event will take place, happen as described, or be what you expected — that is between you and whoever is running it.
Members earn XP through participation, and reaching Cornerstone status (Level 4) marks you as a trusted, reliable member of that Hub. XP, levels, in-app items and any other Virtual Items have no real-world monetary value. They cannot be sold, transferred to others, or redeemed for cash. They are forfeited on account termination.
Localz is free to use. We may fund it by showing promoted content — for example a local business’s offer or discount, or a Hub or event whose organiser has paid for more prominent placement. Anything paid for is labelled as promoted. We may also rank and personalise what you see, promoted content included, based on your activity and the places you are near.
Promoted content comes from the business or organiser behind it, not from us. We do not guarantee any offer, price, availability or event, and any dealing you have with a business is between you and them. How we use your data to personalise and promote, and how to object to it, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Promoted content is not member content. Where someone pays us for placement we have a commercial relationship with them, so the hosting position described in section 5 does not apply to it. Anyone promoting content does so under separate terms agreed with us, under which they remain responsible for it being lawful, accurate and their own.
Where promoted content can appear, and where it cannot. Promoted content appears only where you are browsing or discovering — screens that list Hubs, events and places. It never appears inside a conversation.Nobody can pay to put something into a Hub’s chat, to have their own message pushed up, or to have a neighbour’s pushed down. What happens in a Hub is between the people in it.
A member sharing a deal is not promoted content. If you post about an offer you have found, or a business posts in its own Hub about something it is running, that is your content under section 5 like any other message — nobody paid us for it and we have not placed it. Promoted content means only something someone has paid us to show.
The Localz name, logo, app design, and software are owned by Bupbokmuk Lab Ltd. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.
You may delete your account at any time via the app. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. On termination, all Virtual Items are forfeited with no compensation.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bupbokmuk Lab Ltd is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed £100. Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
Your indemnity. You agree to indemnify Bupbokmuk Lab Ltd against any claim, demand, loss, or reasonable legal cost brought by a third party and arising out of content you posted or conduct in breach of these Terms. This does not apply to the extent the claim arises from our own breach, negligence, or wrongful act, and it does not apply to you if you are using Localz as a consumer rather than in the course of a business.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Nothing in these Terms removes any right you have under the mandatory consumer or data protection law of the country you live in. Where that law gives you a right we cannot exclude, it applies in addition to these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you via the app when changes are material, and the date at the top will always show the current version. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree to a change, you can stop using the Service and delete your account from the app at any time.
